How Early Should I Send My Luggage to the Airport in Japan?

This is for sending a suitcase to the airport before your flight out of Japan.

Short answer

Yamato says to send Airport TA-Q-BIN by two days before departure, or three days in some areas, before the local sending cutoff. The bag must reach the airport by the previous day. Confirm the deadline for your origin and airport with the sending counter, and check the pickup terminal and hours. Keep your waybill’s sender receipt for collection on departure day.

Do this now

  1. 1
Confirm your departure date and airport.

Use the flight’s local departure date. Have your flight and terminal details ready for the sending counter; do not infer the airport from the city name.

  2. 2
Check the pickup counter and its hours.

Use Yamato’s airport counter list. Confirm that pickup is supported at the location you need and that its hours work for your flight.

  3. 3
Ask for your origin’s final shipping date and cutoff.

The two-day or three-day rule still requires drop-off before the sending location’s deadline. Ask early if travelling from a distant region.

  4. 4
Complete the waybill with the sending staff.

Have them check the airport destination and departure details before dispatch. Keep the sender receipt and the items you need until collection.

Why two days is not a nationwide last-minute promise

The Airport TA-Q-BIN service page gives a two-day lead time, with three days needed in some areas, and says the sending cutoff varies by drop-off counter. FAQ 4021 requires arrival at the airport no later than the day before departure.

For example, a Friday flight means Wednesday’s cutoff under the two-day rule, or Tuesday’s under the three-day rule. Confirm which applies to your origin. These calendar examples do not override the counter’s current acceptance decision.

Checking earlier is conservative practical advice, not an extra official shipping deadline. Do not turn up after the local cutoff expecting the calendar date alone to be enough.

Collect at the correct counter on departure day

Yamato’s procedure says collection is on your departure date; for hotel-to-airport shipping, you must have a flight departing that airport on the day you collect. Its service page tells you to present the waybill’s sender receipt.

Check the terminal and pickup counter in the official list before sending. A shipping-only counter is not necessarily a pickup counter. Confirm opening hours directly if your flight is early or late.

If that fails

If the counter cannot accept a shipment in time, keep the bag and plan how to take it to the airport. Do not send it on an ordinary later-arriving service simply because the airport has an address.

A separate same-day service, where one exists, has its own origin, destination and cutoff conditions. This guide does not establish one for your journey; only use it after the operator confirms your exact route and timing.

The opposite direction has different rules

Arriving in Japan and sending a bag FROM the airport to a hotel is a different journey. Its same-day availability does not change the deadline for Airport TA-Q-BIN before an outbound flight.
