A “140 size” parcel means the three dimensions add up to 140 cm or less and it weighs up to 20 kg — that is a normal large checked suitcase. Sagawa also quotes ¥2,440 for 160 size; Yamato quotes ¥5,170 for the same, and ¥7,550 at 200 size.
Sagawa and Yamato are not selling the same product. Yamato's stated area is much larger and reaches into three neighbouring prefectures; Sagawa's is ten central wards. If your hotel is in Shinjuku or Asakusa, Sagawa is simply cheaper for the same job. If it is in Kawasaki or Chiba, Sagawa is not an option at any price.
Storing it instead
Same-day delivery competes with paid storage more than most travellers realise. A suitcase in shop-based storage at ¥800 a day costs ¥5,600 for a week — more than any delivery in the table. Between cities
Intercity same-day delivery has just opened up. JTB and Bounce announced a service in August 2026 that moves baggage between Tokyo and Kyoto or Osaka on the Tokaido Shinkansen, arriving the same day, with the booking and support handled in English. It was launching in September 2026 and prices had not been published when this page was written; we will add them when they are.
