Privacy policy

A short explanation of how this site handles information.

This policy describes the current information practices of Stuck in Japan, an independent travel information site based in Japan.

What this policy covers

Most of the site can be read without giving us personal information. We do not offer traveller accounts, bookings or payments. This policy covers optional analytics cookies and information you choose to send through the contact form.

Analytics and cookies

With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand high-level site use, such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser information, and how visitors reach the site. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies for this purpose.

We do not load GA4 until you choose “Accept analytics” in the cookie banner. If you choose “Necessary only”, the site still works and GA4 does not load. Your selection is stored on this device so the banner does not reappear on every visit.

Contact and enquiries

When you submit the contact form, we receive the details you provide—such as your name, email address, topic and message. The form is processed by the site’s hosting service and Formspree, which delivers it to the site owner’s mailbox. We use a hidden anti-spam field, rate limiting and basic request checks to protect the form.

We use enquiry information only to respond, understand recurring travel problems, maintain site safety, and improve or update relevant guides. Questions may be reviewed with translation or AI assistance to prepare a clear English response. Please do not send sensitive information such as passport, payment or booking details.

Retention and service providers

Analytics information is retained within Google Analytics according to the settings available for this site. Enquiry information is kept only for as long as reasonably needed to respond, keep an appropriate record, or improve a guide, then deleted or anonymised where practical.

Google provides GA4 and may process analytics information under its own policies. Our hosting provider and Formspree process the technical information needed to deliver the site and contact messages. We do not sell personal information.

International visitors

This site is operated from Japan and is intended for international visitors. Information may be processed in Japan and in the countries where our service providers operate. We do not claim that this policy provides every right or disclosure required in every jurisdiction.

Your choices and updates

You can change your cookie choice above or clear site data in your browser. You can contact us through the form to ask about the information you have provided. We may update this policy when the site’s practices change; the date below will be updated at that time.
