If you do not, forwarding it to your last hotel is usually cheaper than a week of storage, and you never make a return trip.

and ask for multi-day storage (預かり, azukari). Most counters open around 10:00 and close at 20:00.
- 3Elsewhere, book a shop-based service in advance
rather than turning up. Multi-day space is the first thing to run out.

before you hand the bag over. You cannot open it again without ending the booking at most counters.

Tokyo Station has several storage counters and they do not all work the same way. The Gransta-listed cloak services state 当日のお預かり — same-day storage only — while JR East Logistics states that multi-day storage up to 30 days is available at Tokyo. Ask specifically for multi-day storage before you hand the bag over, rather than assuming the counter you found is the right one.
The arithmetic that decides it
Storage is priced per day, so the longer the stay the worse it gets. A suitcase at a shop-based service at ¥800 a day is ¥5,600 for a week and ¥11,200 for a fortnight. The same suitcase sent ahead to your final hotel by same-day courier is a one-off charge of roughly ¥2,000–4,500 depending on the carrier and the distance. The delivery prices are here.
The rough rule: up to three days, store it. Beyond that, send it. The exception is a bag you genuinely need to return to the same city for.
Travel forums often quote a Tokyo Station long-term tariff of ¥410 a day for the first five days and ¥820 thereafter, up to fifteen days. We could not find that tariff on any current operator page. The figures above are the ones the operators publish today. If someone quotes you the old numbers, check before you plan around them.
What it is not for
Storage counters are not safes. Both rail operators who publish their locker terms cap compensation at ¥30,000 and forbid storing cash or valuables outright; commercial storage services carry much higher cover but still exclude some categories. Here is what each option actually covers.
