My Foreign Card Was Rejected by a Seven Bank ATM — What Should I Do?

An ATM rejection does not reveal whether the ATM, card settings or issuer stopped the withdrawal.

Short answer

Stop and read the ATM message before trying again. Seven Bank accepts several overseas card networks, but says even a card with a listed mark may fail. Check the withdrawal amount and any receipt, then ask your card issuer whether it approved the attempt. If you still need yen, Japan Post Bank operates a separate international ATM service; check that your card is eligible there.

Do this now

  1. 1
Keep the receipt and read the screen.

Note the displayed message privately; do not guess its meaning from an unofficial error-code list.

  2. 2
Check the card mark and requested amount.

Seven Bank publishes supported marks and per-transaction limits. If the request exceeds its limit, try a smaller amount once.

  3. 3
Check the issuer's official app or phone support.

Ask whether overseas ATM cash withdrawals, your PIN or a card limit stopped this attempt.

  4. 4
Use a different operator if needed.

Japan Post Bank has its own international ATM service and card list; a different ATM is a fallback, not a guarantee.

ATM-side or issuer-side?

Seven Bank says some cards with a listed network mark may still be unusable and its ATMs may be unavailable during maintenance. Its usage guidance says to contact the card issuer when a PIN error appears. These are possible branches, not a diagnosis of your specific transaction.

An issuer can explain its own card controls or decline. Avoid repeated blind attempts while you do not know the cause.

If that fails

Ask the ATM operator through the machine's help route if the machine kept your card or behaved unexpectedly. If the issuer says it blocked the transaction, resolve that with the issuer before making another withdrawal. If money appears to have left the account without cash, use the separate no-cash guide.

FAQ

Does a Visa or Mastercard mark guarantee withdrawal?

No. Seven Bank lists those networks but warns that some cards bearing listed marks still cannot be used. Your issuer can explain its own card restrictions.
