Can I Send My Luggage to an Airbnb in Japan?

The important question is not whether it has an address. It is whether a person is there to receive your suitcase.

Short answer

Usually no—unless the property has a staffed reception desk that has agreed to receive it for you. A host who is off-site, a lockbox, or an unattended apartment is not enough. Yamato says it cannot deliver to a vacation rental without reception staff available to receive the luggage.

What to do before sending luggage

A street address alone is not enough. The property needs someone who has agreed to accept the delivery for you.

A hotel-style desk is open and confirms it will receive a Yamato delivery for you.

Managed building

A building office might help, but get a clear yes from the host or manager before sending.

Self check-in

Lockboxes, key safes and unattended homes have nobody to accept delivery. Do not send it there.

A message to send your host

“Hi! Can you receive a Yamato TA-Q-BIN suitcase for [my full name], arriving around [date]? Is there a staffed reception desk that can sign for it?”

Do not send it until they confirm both answers.

Can I just put the Airbnb address on the waybill?

Not safely. An address alone does not mean anyone can receive the suitcase. Confirm there is staffed reception and that it will accept the delivery first.

Can I send it from the airport after I land?

You may be able to send luggage from participating airport counters, but it still needs an acceptable destination and enough delivery time. It is not a same-day solution for most stays.

Can I use the host’s phone number?

Only with the host’s permission. You need a reachable contact and accurate delivery details; do not guess or use a number without asking.
