Why Does My Shinkansen Ticket Say “Tokyo Ward Area”?

Short answer

It means your ticket uses JR’s Tokyo city-zone fare rule—it is not another train or a ticket error. Instead of naming only Tokyo Station, the ticket lets you start or finish at an eligible JR station inside Tokyo’s 23 wards.
